Retail Art

Next Wednesday, at Sotheby’s New York, there is a sale of “American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture“.   275 lots of very worthy material.  But in contrast to the recent Contemporary Art sales, this is art at the retail level.  For example:

… “Building” by Adolf Konrad, beautifully and creatively designed, has a pre-sales estimate of only $5-7,000.

An interesting collection, but not much that I am mad about.

I own several Adolf Konrad paintings and am interested in selling one of them. (A Fire Island scene) Any interest?

I have a small Konrad of a guitarist seated in front of an orange couch with four people watching him. It is an oil roughly 5.5″ x 10.5″ framed. It was purchased directly from the artist in the mid 1960s. He modeled the guitarist after Segovia, who at that time was featured on a PBS TV series. Interestingly, after purchasing the painting, Adolf went to his workbook and gave me the sketches for the painting. He also added some highlight coloring to the sketch in watercolor while I was there. The sketch is about 11″x14″ on heavy portfolio paper.
