Described on 1910 and 1912 Insurance Maps as a one-storey storefront attached to a 2 1/2 storey house behind. 1923/4/21: BP A-5644 to lessee Daily Province, $300 for miscellaneous.

1935-1977

In 1934/35 Rev, Leeman and his wife demolished the original building, constructing the two-storey Commercial Apartments, with four suites on each level. In 1937, a small area in back was made into an industrial unit. 1944/4/29: RE description: “$6,750 full price for 22 rooms divided into suites, Revenue $1,800, taxes $195 (free suite for owner)” (Sun, p.23).

The ground floor was originally designed for Royal Bank (1910-1925). Much of the space, including the apartments/offices on Napier was occupied by the YWCA Community Centre from 1938-1948. The conical roof seen in the earlier photographs was removed sometime after 1954.
